Before Orland Joe begins sculpting in his studio in Kirtland, New Mexico, he often attends tribal ceremonies. His inspiration comes from his childhood memories from his aunts, uncles, grandmothers and grandfathers. Corn is one of the Three Sisters, so called because corn, squash and beans were planted together in Native American cultures. Orland C. Joe, Sr.'s awards are numerous. He is a member of the Cowboy Artists of America.
